The first TransJakarta line opened to the public on January 15, 2004. Following two weeks in the which it was free to use, commercial operations started on February 1, 2004. TransJakarta was built to provide a fast, comfortable, and affordable mass transportation system. To Accomplish those objectives, the buses were given restricted to other traffic lanes and separated by concrete blocks on the streets that Became part of the busway Routes. There were some initial teething problems, such as when the roof of one of the buses rammed into a railway tunnel. In addition, many buses had technical issues such as broken doors and stop buttons. TransJakarta (or busway) is a city bus that is operated by the Public Service Agency (BLU) of TransJakarta owned Jakarta Provincial Government.

Ticketing system on TransJakarta bus stops since 2013 using an electronic card (e-ticketing), in lieu of cash. The operator of the corridor does not issue cards, but use a prepaid card issued by a bank. The banks namely Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Brizzi), Bank Central Asia (Flazz), Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI Prepaid, Card I, and Rail Card), Bank Mandiri (e-money, e-Toll Card, Card Indomaret, and GazCard) , and Bank DKI (JakCard). The card can be purchased in the bank and prepaid card provider counters at several TransJakarta bus stops. Balance charging can be done at the ATM, the banks concerned, and the counter stops. E-ticket users do not need to queue at the counter stops, enough with the tap-in at the entrance stop (barrier) and into the shelter. When the balance reaches zero, then the current tap-in door barrier can not be played and the user can recharge the card at the counter stops. TransJakarta users who do not have the card still buy tickets at the counter stops, then given a paper ticket to be torn by the barrier officer will then conduct a special tap-in cards held by the officer. All users TransJakarta that will come out do not stop tap-in again, simply by passing the exit barrier stops.
